JABLANICA - KONJIC - BLIDINJE NP

Mountains & Rivers of Herzegovina

Leaving the coast behind, the route turns inland toward Bosnia and Herzegovina, following the emerald waters of the Neretva River through one of the most dramatic river canyons in the region. The road winds along steep limestone cliffs, offering continuous views over the river below — a visually striking and deeply immersive stretch of riding.

In Jablanica, we stop at the Museum of the Battle for the Wounded on the Neretva, dedicated to the pivotal World War II battle fought in this valley. Nearby roadside stops offer the chance to taste traditional “pita ispod sača” — a local specialty prepared under an iron bell and widely regarded as one of Herzegovina’s most authentic comfort foods.

Continuing upstream, the ride leads to Konjic, where a relaxed lunch stop allows guests to enjoy traditional roasted lamb in restaurants set above the river, with panoramic views over the canyon and bridges below. The day includes a visit to Tito’s Bunker (ARK D-0), a vast underground military complex built during the Cold War and today preserved as a unique historical site.

In the afternoon, the route climbs steadily toward Blidinje Nature Park, entering a high mountain plateau surrounded by rugged peaks, forests and open meadows. The day concludes with a refreshing pause at the Koćuša Waterfall, where cascading water and shaded surroundings offer a calm contrast before the return toward the coast.

This day combines flowing river roads, mountain riding and regional traditions — one of the most diverse and rewarding stages of the journey.
