Počitelj – Mostar – Blagaj – Stolac – Neretva Delta

Heritage & Wetlands

The day begins in Počitelj, a historic hillside town overlooking the Neretva Valley, where stone architecture and wide views introduce the region’s layered past.

We continue to Mostar, exploring the old town and its iconic bridge (UNESCO World Heritage Site), a lasting symbol of cultural crossroads and resilience. The visit includes the Museum of Genocide in Mostar, offering essential historical context to the conflicts of the 1990s and the impact they had on the city and its people.

This part of the journey carries a deeper narrative. Much of this region is marked by recent history, and along the way, guests will hear first-hand accounts and local perspectives shaped by the war years — a subject Mario knows well, having spent extensive time in this area during and after the conflict.

Following the river south, the route leads to Blagaj and the Buna River spring, set beneath dramatic cliffs — an atmospheric stop and a relaxed place for lunch. The region’s cuisine reflects its geography: river fish, slow-cooked meats, seasonal vegetables, local cheeses, and traditional dishes shaped by Ottoman and Mediterranean influences.

In the afternoon, we ride on to Stolac to visit Radimlja, a UNESCO-listed medieval necropolis of stećci, offering a quiet moment of reflection within a much older historical layer.

The journey concludes through the Neretva Delta wetlands — a unique landscape of waterways, agriculture, and birdlife — before returning to Gradac along scenic back roads.
